George Washington
“I didn't cross a freezing river for this”
The real history behind it
On the night of December 25, 1776, Washington took about 2,400 soldiers across the ice-choked Delaware River in sleet and snow. They marched through the storm and surprised the Hessian garrison at Trenton the next morning. Nobody involved described it as fun.
